Overview
You're about to install and configure two programs:
- Tango itself. The application which users run.
- TangoPatcher which automatically downloads new versions of Tango as Day8 releases
them. This batch program should be scheduled to run once each day and is important because, when new versions are
released, all industry parties (agencies and networks) must be upgraded in a synchronised way
The Assumptions
- Tango should be network (server) installed and accessed by media buyers through a UNC path or a mapped drive.
There is no installation work to be done on each individual desktop, other than perhaps the placement of a shortcut
somewhere for the user - the desktop jumps to mind. Tango can run under Citrix, if required. Central
installation makes upgrading much easier. If your site has MediaWise installed, then we recommend placing the
Tango software on the MediaWise server.
- Like MediaWise (one of our other products probably installed at your site), users need to run Tango "along side" BMD (BCC's product). By "along side" we simply mean that if a user has the BMD application open and the Tango application open, that these two applications must be able to exchange information through the clipboard. Given BMD is typically run through Citrix, this normally means that Tango must also be run through Citrix to achieve this "along side" exchange of information.
- We assume the users desktop is a Windows XP machine.
- For what follows, we assume you are logged onto the file server. Ie. you are not on a user's desktop and accessing the server via a mapped drive or UNC path, you are actually logged onto the server.
Before You Start
Make sure you have a licence to install and use this software. You need one.
Contact Day 8 Technology and ask them to supply "Tango.zip". Copy this zip file to the file server.
Steps
- Expand Tango.zip on your MediaWise server (or on your central file server). A folder called "Tango" will be
created and it will contain sub-folders for the various bits and pieces necessary for Tango. For the purposes of
the
At this point Tango is installed. Now we need to configure it. - Run the configuration program in a sub-folder:
<root of install>\TangoConfigurationTool_Exe\TangoConfigurationTool.exe
- Click on "Site Name" tab in the GUI:
- into "Site Id" enter "Tango-YourAgencyName". Ask Day8 to supply the correct value for
"YourAgencyName". No spaces allowed.
- into "Display Name" enter a longer, more descriptive version of your agency's name. Spaces are allowed.
- into "Site Id" enter "Tango-YourAgencyName". Ask Day8 to supply the correct value for
"YourAgencyName". No spaces allowed.
- Click on "Tango Application" tab, then on the "INI File Creation" sub-tab:
- in "initial_application" select "Day8.Tango.AgencyToolbarUI"
- ignore the "Extra INI lines for" field
- click on the "Create INI File" button
- Click on "Tango Application" tab, then on the "Shortcut Creation" sub-tab:
- click on the "Create Share" button ("Tango" should already be name).
- check the UNC path in bottom text box is correct, otherwise edit
- click on the "Create Shortcut" button
- Click on the "TangoPatcher" tab in GUI:
- Click "Create ini file" button.
- Click "Created Scheduled Task"
- Now go to control panel -> schedule tasks and edit the scheduled task just created so it has the
correct login and password.
- Click on the "Report" tab:
- Click on the button. If it doesn't work, then you'll need to open your firewall so that the domain "day8.com.au" is accessible.
- If initial attempt failed, then go back and press this button again one you have fixed the firewall
- Once the firewall issues are sorted, go back to the scheduled tasks and manually run the created task.
(right click on task and select "Run" from the menu). Ensure it runs - a DOS box should appear,
text will appear. Won't take long to run - just a few seconds.
- Test. Go to the root Tango folder. In there you'll find a shortcut for Tango, which you should double
click. You should see a small toolbar appear, containing three buttons. Click the right-hand-side
button to exit.
- Distribute the shortcut to users by either putting it on their desktop, or in their start menu, or by whatever
other mechanism buyers access their applications at your site.
